International Quilt Festival and Road Trip from Humble Quilts

If you've been following my blog for any length of time you'll know that Laurie and I travel together. We will be meeting at the airport in Houston then having a bit of road trip fun before the quilt show in Houston!

I'm beginning to feel a little like Thelma and Louise! lol

Ah, September! from From the Strawberry Patch...

The weather, at long last, has cooled off a bit! Brisk mornings and clear blue-sky afternoons with a slight breeze have been the norm around here this past week; it's a welcome relief~ I'm SO ready! We've been on a road trip to the Lakes Region of NH. Spent time with Mom and Dad for both Father's Day and my mother's birthday this past Tuesday. This photo is from five years ago. Paducah and Beyond from Humble Quilts

I loved this exhibit of the US Presidents!

This quilt "spoke" volumes!

Then we hit the road and stopped to see random and not so random things!

We went up up and away in the arch! That was fun!

My driving host was Maenad.

She picked me up and dropped me off at the Philly airport. (1 1/2-2 hours each way!)

As if that wasn't enough she offered to take me to some quilt shops in Amish country. That was a lot of fun!

The blog title is country roads.... that's no joke!

Road Trip.... Paducah or Bust from Humble Quilts

First stop, Nashville!

We got in last so had a good night rest before exploring.

We opted for the hop-on, hop-off bus.

So interesting to see this in Nashville!

Ohio's Miami Valley Quilts in the Museum (Photo heavy!) from Humble Quilts

Because I made this quilt in 2016 I was really looking forward to seeing the exhibit of Ohio's Miami Valley quilts at the International Quilt Museum!

Here is my finished quilt:

Karen Beigh and I did this one together and she was instrumental in designing our quilts!

These were the books we used.

Sue Cummings book does not have patterns but inspiration.

Anita Shackelford does have patterns in her booklet.

I don't have much to say about these quilts so I'll let you enjoy! They were really incredible!

Quiet Time from From the Strawberry Patch...

So, this is a post about Quiet Time. As you can tell from this photo, there's lots of resting and quiet time going on here. This was taken at my parents' home in New Hampshire last week. It was Augie's first road trip and he did extremely well in the car; you would have thought that he was a seasoned road-tripper! My second new quilt start happened this week with yet another block-of-the-month class. This one is based on a pattern called "Cream and Sugar" by It's Sew Emma. I've decided to adopt the lower-contrast neutral palette as illustrated; I think it will be pretty and a nice way for me to experiment with value, it will be fun. I still have a lot of pictures to show from the Badlands Quilters Retreat in Medora, ND. Today I'm showing pictures from my 2-day Country Sampler class.

This is one of my favorite workshops to teach as I believe the students learn so much. They learn the formulas to make common quilting components any size they need.

This is especially helpful when you want to change sashings and borders or make a row-by-row quilt or when you are working on a round robin quilt.

Hello Everyone,

I'm home! We left Winnemucca, NV fairly early and headed for home in Arnold, CA. We stopped in Gardnerville, NV to have lunch with a friend that Gail hasn't seen in 55 years. Then the car headed over Ebbetts Pass on autopilot. The eastern side of the Sierras are so beautiful in Gardnerville.

This sign was riddled with stickers......no bullet holes, but stickers.

Home is over the mountains in the distance which we had to drive over.

California or Bust from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

Hello Everyone,

We got a very early rocky start to our day. Both Gail and I were craving our foo foo vanilla lattes at Starbucks. We were thrilled to find a Starbucks in Rock Springs, WY. Gail was driving so she pulled up to the window, ordered, paid, and then drove away! Hey Gail, what about our lattes? After an extended laughter, we headed through some very interesting landforms in Wyoming while sipping our lattes.

We crossed into Utah to see some beautiful colors in the mountains, but the pictures didn't capture the beauty of the mountains.
